Just got my new gaming rig (laptop)

Specs:
CPU: 600 MHz Pentium III
RAM: 192 MB
LCD: 12.1" Active Matrix
GPU: ATI Rage LT Pro 4MB
OS: Windows XP Pro
I get a 5-10fps running quake at 640x480, 16bit color, low textures, low geometry. If I go to 320x240 I can get up to 20 fps. Odd, but going to 800x600 gives me 0 fps.
Doom III doesn't load, for some reason. I think I must have a bad disc.
Touchpads aren't that bad, btw.

Is that screen even SVGA?
Sounds like a carputer in the making.

It's a nice, very small, subnotebook. I got it off craigslist for $340. Great for writing documents, offloading pictures from my camera, etc. It even runs Visual Studio .NET just fine.

Ouch... $340.
You do know that there are generic laptops with 2.4GHz CPUs for $499, right?
Well, it's $599, but there are ways of shaving $100 off of things at Fry's.
Edit: Last week they had the same brand, same model except it had a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo. I think it's the same one, but they didn't say CD-RW in the ad.
I've seen that one in the store. The screen is SURPRISINGLY good. It was one of the top screens, even better than the glossy Sony and HP ones.

That thing probably weighs twice as much.
I was thinking of this:

Don't go for Averatech. I believe Wal-Mart sells those, and anything Wal-Mart sells is shit.
If there is a Fry's around you, make the trip and check out the GQ. Don't feel guilty about buying generic laptops either... They're all made by the same five companies over in China. It's not like the difference between buying an American TV and a Chinese TV... They're all made in China.
The screen is really nice, trust me.

ah, but being able to fit your laptop in your backpack and not even notice it.... priceless.

You're talking about a difference of 3 inches.
That 600Mhz laptop is probably 2 inches thick, and with an old 12.1 inch screen I'm guessing that the margin around the screen is an inch.
The GQ is 1.5 inch thick, and it kicks your ass.

It's 3/4" thick, exactly. The margin around the screen is 1/3". It weighs slightly under 3 pounds.
The processor and memory are fine for my needs.
I didn't even think it would be able to run quake, but I laughed when it did.
