well i dont know about that. in general i do think it looks retarded but i wouldnt say that people should always put it in their pocket.
consider that for a lot of hospitals, they've replaced pagers with cellphones. the convenience of a pager was that the doctors or whoever could just glance down when they felt it vibrate and know the urgency of the situation.
im not saying that doctors are busy 100% of the time but i imagine putting it on the belt can be convenient for them. also consider that a lot of scrubs only have a back pocket and that youre not always wearing a white coat.
i guess maybe if you could extend that to other fields or situations (i.e. not just in a hospital or clinic) somehow or other...i imagine also that people get use to it.
