is this onboard sound or a normal sound card ?

i've had a problem similar to this and it turned out to be the motherboard's south bridge gone south...

I have heard, and i am not sure if this would apply for your situation but, Some people say that a weak +5V on the PSU Would cause this.

Will battle on for a cure though before replacing the board. Any other suggestions before I format would be appreciated
or at the very least buy a cheap soundcard for an empty pci slot before replacing that mobo, mofo.
