When the power flickers at home my computer goes out, but nothing else is affected( alarm clocks, microwave clock etc ) I brought my pc into work and it just went out but none of the other 15 pc's went out. Why?

The power supply in your PC is more sensitive to power loss.
Get a UPS with built in surge protection and forget about it.

get a beefer psu
h4r!!! Actually, listen to what Gramps is saying, you can pick up a cheap UPS/Surge/power bar for ~$40 that has a USB interface and will allow you ~30 mins of uptime before the batt runs out.

Also make sure you setup the UPS in XP and set it to shut down your PC when it reaches critically low battery levels. You don't need to install any of the manufacturers shite software to do this either, everything you need is already in Windows.

Aye, I gotta get me one of those. Back in March, a split-second power outage from lightning was enough to disable my Antec's fans and there was no way for me to realize that I was using a fanless PSU until it damaged my video card and fried my motherboard.

I've lost a few parts to power outtages. I really need to do this as well.
