Thinking about picking this up in the next couple weeks.

It's f'n huge 113 lbs, which is pretty light. It's a RP LCD, little cheaper then the totally flat screens, which I really don't need at this time. Also already have HDTV, which does look sweet on it.

I can then sell my HDTV Tuner, since this one is built in.

Also, I found it online for about $3k, but have been warned if they aren't an authorized Sony seller the warranty is no good. Anyone here of that before?

I'd hate to purchase the $3k one from an online store and have it shipped just to find out one of the bulbs breaks or something a couple weeks down the road and it's not covered.. :icon23:

I've been warned by a friend that runs a TV repair shop to stay away from plasma and LCD sets for the time being. Too many problems with the new sets.
Nice TV, though.

unless you're short on space there's no harm in getting a tube telly - and they're loads cheaper these days because of the competition from flat screens.

Only drawback being the difficulty in finding an HD-ready CRT set.

Save yourself a couple hundred $$$ and get it w/o the build in tuner, unless you plan on watching over the air HD. Cable and digital satellite have the tuner built in their equipment and you just run component cables from their box to your TV.

Already got HD, and SD and analog stations really are crap compared to 1080i HD, its just amazing... :) My neighbor bought this set awhile back and it's awesome, my cable sucks out where I live so I'd have to get DirecTV or VooM to get HD cable, currently just running analog cable with not set top box and running an HD Tuner to my TV... I can't believe it took me this long to get HD up and running it's just unbelievable.. and local HD is all free anyhow.. there's no reason not to be running HD if your TV supports it.. :)

I'd love to have a plasma or LCD tv, but I'd never buy one myself unless they come waaaay down in price. For large screen viewing, projectors are more my thing, and that's what I'd suggest going for. From what I've read/heard they actually last longer than the televisions and are cheaper to maintain.

Still... @ that TV
