Laptop: when is it better to repair or replace?

Wife's laptop battery is shot and I've had to repair the power connector twice because the cord got tangled and broke the internal pin.

So I figure if I get a new battery and fix the connector again, she won't have to keep the laptop plugged in all the time. A new battery (after market) cost between $99 and $150 US.

My question is: With laptops out there for around $399 US is it better to repair or replace at this point?

I'm leaning towards repair.

Thoughts?

Depending on the replacement Laptop, is it better that what you have now? and another thing to always concider, is if you purchase acc. that cost more than the computer is worth then it's time to get a better one.
