Oh hell yeah.

Just saw a TV promo for the movie The Descent. Seriously scary book by Jeff Long that I always figured would make a great movie. Apparently the brits agreed and made it back in 2005. Hadels = best nightmare monster evar.

Anyone see it? Is it as good as it looks?

I was pleasently surprised when I saw it. Not necessarily scary, but quite tense in places. The ending is quite decent too. Well worth watching.

It was OK.

Some jumps, some gore and a lot of claustrophobia.

Very good film, claustrophobic is definitly the word to describe it. I'm led to believe the ending was changed by the americans though? damn yanks can't leave anything as it is :icon7:

The only thing this movie has in common with the book is the name and that it's set underground.

The book was a long, epic story spanning several years and was a very good read. (The ending was kinda lame but it worked and connected things in the middle of the book that didn't make sense).

This movie is absolute shit. The only redeeming quality is that the lead actress (the one that survives) is good looking and you see her in a wet shirt.

Other than that...don't even rent "The Descent".

That movie "The Cave" was even dumber.

so it's official then

Is the movie really 'that good' or is it because most of the characters are hot females?

GONNAFISYTA hated it because he kept thinking of that time he got stuck down the world's biggest cave.

The movie is mediocre and there's some titillation to be had.

There.
That sums it up.
Just aquire this thing and watch it.

Do you need some fucking stamp-of-approval-satisfaction-guarantee for every movie you see?

Actually I found this movie VERY boring. It was quite good storywise, and this alone would have made a great movie, but instead of good acting and situation, what did they do? They had to introduce some crap zombies. Up from that point the movie was lost.
Don't know why Hollywood (or whoever did it) thought that they had to bring up zombies to "spice" it up.

Ehhhhm, the 'zombies' were exactly the thing that lead to struggle.

Otherwise they could have peacefully found their way out into daylight.

Am I naively replying to some troll here, or are you just retarded?

The storyline would have been interesting if the zombies were not introduced. In fact, from the moment the first Zombie was spotted, I knew that the movie turned from good into a cheap flick with zombies and tits to make "interesting".
Don't know why you think the zombies were required. In fact it would have been much more interesting to watch the character relate to each other and the tension that ensues. they know they are trapped down there, no help on it's way (if you have seen the movie you know why) and they have limited resources to find another exit. I think this would have been more than enough to make a good movie if there were a good director and storybook author. But as it is with many hhollywood flicks, they cant rely on good actin, so instead they simply revert to cheap tricks by adding murder and mutilation. That's an easy copout to avoid thinking of how the actors can make the movie good.
Tell you what. I saw a german movie with Goetz George where there were four characters trapped within an elevator. Each one with a reason why he was there. There was also some violence introduced but in a limited way. The movie had live because of the actors and their performance in this limited environment. And it definitely was much more interesting and tension, then this Descent. When I first read the storyintroduction I thought that it were something like this, but unfortunately it wasn't.
