Is it possible for a person to recognize their lack of intelligence?

I think they're in denial.
It's like I'm doing an art degree and some of the work that people produce is a fucking embarrasment, if it were me i'd have quit and done something that i can actually do rather than persuing something that i'm obviously no good at.
I wonder if they know they're shit, especially when they look around and realise theirs is the crap compared to everone elses and they're in denial, or they genuinly think their work is good and have no idea that I, and probably most people could produce work better than theirs in pre-school.

fuck dude, I know exactly what you mean....some of the shit i saw in my 3rd year of my bfa. I would just look at it and say, are you trying to fucking insult me with this shit? I work my ass off for a month on my piece, and you show up with something that looks like a tampon you wiped your ass with!?!?!
(Yes I said that in one of my crits.)
There are some seriously dillusional fucks in art skool.
Im glad Im out.....My work is better for it.
It took me 3 years to produce after I graduated... Red was my muse..Now I'm doing the best work of my life. And I refuse to show.....So our wedding will be the first time I've shown my work since I graduated. Red's work is brilliant...shes someone who was never told she was an artist just because she doesnt draw or paint...but her work is so inspiring. I havent produced so much work since 2nd year, when I was a machine of inspiration... And she wants to show our work together at the wedding. Im actually looking forward to it. I've finally sunken into my own style, thats not too derivative.
Find your muse and marry her.

Good example.
But yeah, since intelligence is lacking, it's not incomprehensible that it affects their self-awareness.
I know it's tricky to try to quantify intelligence, and lack of self-awareness isn't necessarily indicate stupidity, but on the other hand, I do think that stupidity does come with a heapin' helpin' of self-ignorance without fail.

I have no Phd exept for my initials but I doubt that intelligence rhyme with stupid or self-awareness.
I live with a child, 19YO with a brain analyzed by neuro specialists as 3YO. She doesn't know she is that sick or wathever... She is happy all of the time even when her mother yeld at her she laught... You don't want to know.

My wife is dealing with the same crap, senior year of her art degree. For me it's all the 'calculator engineers' that piss me off. Take away their TI-89s and they lose ALL of their math ability.(The worst part is that they seem to fucking REVEL in it.) In a way it benefits me because I can actually do the work in the real world. At the same time, these idiots are cheapening my degree and hard work, and as such should be killed.

Holy shit, exactly. We have a company man/engineer on location that I have to spoon feed info to. He can't do math, the calculations neccessary to complete the job, predict what is needed to complete the job, etc... I have to do it for him, going on a year now. He's supposedly the 'brains' on job site. And here I am with less than a high school education doing it all for him. I want his daily commision. A full fledged consultant makes $2500 a day. He makes $500 a day and it's wasted on him.

If that person doesn’t disturb you in any way, let her go/live.
But may be you never talk to that person and you would be surprised.

I think there are several degrees of intelligence (or lack of thereof) and self awareness. For example, there was a guy who used to be my friend, he is athletic and good looking, so he gets around well socially, he has a reasonably hot gf and everything, but he couldn't even finish high school properly (and he actually tried hard) and he is really dumb. However, no matter how many times you call him stupid, he is ALWAYS in denial, he thinks "so if I'm so stupid, how come I'm doing so well?", however he tries to forget that he's fucking horrid at any sort of school work (high school, I remind you).
Another example would be myself. When I was in "college" (CEGEP), I was doing pretty well in ordinary science and general education classes without having to try hard or study much. I thought I was pretty smart, compared to some people who study their asses off and still fail science classes, those people are pretty fucking pathetic. However, when I took some advanced optionnal science classes, I realised how bad I really am compared to people who are truly intelligent. I realised that everyone there is smarter than me, and that I just didn't get most of the things I learned in class, no matter how much I studied or how hard I tried.
In conclusion, I think that this is the major difference between a person who's in denial about being a moron, and an person who realises that he not a genuis, and that there are a lot of people out there who are much more intellingent than himself.
