on 10.3, are there any useful guides for how to change the person who is allocated admin access?
A laptop in my dept has just come to me and the IT guy is pc based, so i cant install software without logging on as teh previous admin

There should be a way to change admin priveleges through single user mode. Start up using cmd-S and you'll be dropped to the command prompt. From there you can edit the appropriate config files or mess with commands to grant a specific user administrator priveleges.

Can't you reset the root password off a boot CD, create an admin account and delete the old one?
