I'm incredibly pissed right now...

I just got a car about 4 day's ago and I just barely scrubbed the side of a wall and scrapped paint over the paintjob. I'm so mad... Anyway, it's the front fender of the car and it looks like it's got one of those plastic bumpers so at least I know no rust and it's not cracked or broken anywhere, just barely scraped the goddamn things.

But what I'm wondering is the best way to fix it? Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking of just buying some touch up paint but it's a pretty large scrape and it'd probably look better if it was sprayed on I think... plus it's just a plastic thing so anyway, anyone have any experience with this stuff? I could just buy a new front fender but that'd be like 500$ for a scratch...

I had a car incident this morning. I forgot I had opened my protein shake, I went to shake it up some more and ended up with chocolate protein shake all over the fucking two front seats and ended up having to get the goddamned thing shampooed at an auto detailer because I couldn't scrub the fucking scent out enough.

Anyhow, I'd get some estimates. I've used touch up paint myself for little rock chips, etc., but I think anything the size you describe would be visible with touch up paint...

well for me its usually some stoopid idiot grazing my vehickles.

what they do to fix it is spitwet thier thumb and firmly press/smooth it over the damage, then stepback and say "eh theres nothing there'

FIXED

Figure out the color code of the car (I think it's part of the VIN on most cars) and get the touch up paint that matches exactly either from the dealer (preferred) or local parts store. Just make sure to clean and prep the surface and don't do a sloppy job and it will be fine. Couple of coats will do since touch up paint is usually a lot thicker.

Yeah... that's what I'm thinking too... I'm aware it will be visible on close inspection but luckily it's a glossy black so black isn't too visible and where the scratches are as long as I can make it look glossy (and black) I think I might be able to pull it off, I should take a couple pics and post em on my next break.

I don't get how I did it either I tried to enter a parking spot the wrong way and then decided against it so I just backed up the same way I came in, didn't even move the godamn wheel and a pillar (which I avoided going in obviously) scraped the corner front bumper on the driver side backing out. I could swear I didn't move the wheel at all backing out so I wasn't really looking and I scraped it barely cause there's absolutely not damage to the front just white paint fromt he fucking wall.

Oh, dude. Don't paint over it. Get some paint thinner to rub it off. If it's still necessary, then use the touch up paint. And remember what I said about matching the color. Even if it's black, there are 100's of different kinds of black when it comes to cars.

Yeah I know, I've had to buy black touch up paint before. Thanks for the tip on the paint thinner actualy I wouldn't have thought of that. I'll do that first.

Actually the first thing you should do is call your local dealership, find out if they have a touch up guy for plastic, get his number and call him. Our guy usually charges us $150 to blow in paint on bumpers and it comes out perfect.

Yeah I wasn't sure if they did that to the front bumpers or if they'd just tell me to replace the whole thing. I'll have to go check that out I guess.

Fucking pissed I tell ya, nothing like fucking up something new eh?

How long did you work in a major body shop?

I've never worked in a body shop, but I've worked with paint enough to know that it's pretty fucking stupid to try to remove scratches with something that damages paint.
