did you try Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War? i have yet to actually play it but it seemed sort of like c&c. Also this is a longshot but did you ever play Rome: Total War? that game was nothing like command and conquer but damn was it fun imo.

Dawn of War was very good. Age of Empires 3 is also worth getting, although the RTS gameplay is very different from C&C.
Oh and they just released a DVD of just about every C&C game released...

It's not C & C's style, but I picked up Age of Mythologies from walmart for like $19.
Awesome RTS game.

I just tried Rome: Total War and found it interesting at first, but after my first imperial campaign it became extremely boring.
Maybe that's because I always let the AI do the actual battles, but what's the point of doing them yourself if the AI does them better than I ever could? (ie with single digit casualties if I go in with a big enough army)

C&C: Generals.
I've only played it briefly, but it looks really nice. :icon14:
EDIT: Just realized that wasn't very helpful. I have played it briefly, but the little I played was sweet. I has the oldskool RA feel, but it's a slightly different format, where you, as a commander, have to improve your rank to gain access to an increased arsenal. The visuals are a big improvement, and a treat to look at. Most of the time I was busy saying, "That looks so cool!"
EDIT2: Apparently, MKJ says it sucks, so never mind. :icon26:

...the battles are the best part of the game, dude. And the AI definately does not do better than you can, especially with sieges.
Unless maybe you were playing on easy? *shrug*

Rome: Total War is fun when you+your buddies are drunk, and you play 1 battle only. 300 elephants vs 10k footmen.
