If I go to a site like http://www.summitracing.com/ can I expect the prices to include or exclude VAT? How much is VAT?

I don't think the US has VAT. I think taxes on goods are determined on a state by state basis, although I might be wrong.
As for buying stuff from the States and having it shipped to you, I don't think you'll get charged tax, but you may get slapped with import duty, an extra charge you'll have to pay on delivery.

Somebody kick me if I'm wrong :icon32:

We don't have VAT. Sales tax is a state by state, and sometimes county by county or even city by city deal. Fucking nightmare. Because of online sales, there's a pretty big push to standardize it at least to the state level. For example, here in Ohio there are 88 counties. State sales tax is something like 5.75%. Then each county has its own on top of that, usually totalling around 6.5 - 6.75%. Some states don't have sales tax at all IIRC. *shrug*

If you order online, you won't get charged sales tax. Although, as mat said, you might have to deal with imports or something on the other end.

Summit Racing is about 10 minutes from me.

I thought you called it VAT too, but sales tax is what I meant then.
I've actually been to the states once and I remember that if you went out and bought something, sales tax was never included in the advertised price, but rather added on at the cash register.
Hence my reason for asking and thanks for the answer.
