I think you need media center on the PC to do that directly from the PC.

If you have a media center pc it will stream..but only certain types. You can rule out xvid or dvix.

wouldn't trying to stream those in HD be pointless anyway, because of the compression?

I was answering the first question in the post. But in reference to HDTV. I had some transport stream (.ts) video that played just fine in Media Center, but it would lock up my xbox when I would try to access it from the extender.

I was able to stream live hdtv straight to my xbox just fine.

How nice of Microsoft to make it media centre only. I'll stick to XBMC with the original xbox :/

even with the compression and not having a HD TV the shows still look better.

thats one of the nice things about having a 360 now. I can now mod my old xbox and not worry about fucking it up.

you can connect 2 pcs at the same time (that is, you can select a pc from the 360), but you need a pc with Windows Media Center to stream video's
you can stream music & pictures with WinXP SP2 though

Although I have no idea, I'm guessing that streaming video from a Media Center PC to a 360 would only work with WMV or standard MPEG (maybe MPEG-2) content, or any other standard codec that MCP and the 360 are aware of.

theres a list of compatible codecs somewhere on microsoft.com. i also quoted that here in the forum so if you do a search you might find it

they just released a program that allows you to stream xvid/divx through MCE, but with a helper program... i read about it on xbox-scene.com a couple of weeks ago.

thats quite interesting glossy. im thinking of converting my current mp3 server to a WMC. if its able to stream every vid type directly to the 360 that would just be secks in a can.

currently im still trying to create playlists which the 360 picks up on (since the 360 playlists can only contain files that are on the 360's HDD)

can you dual boot MCE and XP?

I would think so? But why, its still xp right? As long as it still runs all my games and shit..im thinking about switching to it. Right now I just have it on a spare drive trying it out. But I dont see a need to dual boot.
