problem with Steam and mod....

i d/l'ed the mod Mistake of Pythagoras, in the my games section i see the mod and it says 100% as does HL2, when i try to start the mod it takes me to a updating screen, which atm says 230 minutes.
???

Your best bet is a Half Life forum.

did you shut down and restart steam before playing?

yep.
i also read the readme, which was a first
edit:
nm, it finished updating, but its playing like crap, taking ages to load, random freezing.
never had the problem with HL2.
