Dumb astronomy question

It's 6AM here in Sheffield UK and the sun is just about to come up. Looking out of my skylight due south I can see what looks like a very bright star. So bright it's shining with high visibility through a medium thickness of cloud. In near daylight =/

It's been there for the last hour I've been checking and hasn't dimmed or moved noticeably. It's faaaar too far away to be the moon, producing too much light to be a planet, and I checked nasa's tracking pages and the ISS is on the other side of the world right now.

Any ideas?

Could be. The most visible state for venus this year will be seen on the morning of march 26th according to Mr Internet. If that's accurate, it's going to be extremely bright at that time, cause it's extremely bright right now here. About as bright as orion's belt on a completely clear winter night.
