Blagging this from another forum:

Took me close to two hours spaced out over nearly 5 days to figure it out =/

i have.
i guess its a language thing, since i never heard of the phrase "petals around the rose", so i have no idea what this dude is saying

I don't think that phrase has any linguistic significance. Having said that, it is instrumental in solving the problem.

perhaps. it feels like someone just handed me a fish and a clothespin and asked me for the answer.
my point is, without understanding the problem how could one come to any conclusion

Figuring out what the problem is is the solution. Well, kind of ..

it took me 20 seconds.
and i did not even read the description

The solution is indeed in the phrase. That said, it's a rather stupid game with no mathematical significance.

You, my friend, are one who thinks outside la boƮte.

Yea, apparently scientific/mathematical type people spend too much time overanalyzing mathematical aspects of the numbers.
I'd appreciate it if anyone who gets the solution doesn't give it away for the others.

wrong. i'm about to study maths.

Hehe, same here. I filled out an entire sheet with numbers and the correct solution and spent ages trying to figure out some kind of mathematical pattern. I think that's one of the reasons it took me that long.

Maybe maths isn't the career path for you then .. ?

When this was on SA it took me three days before I gave up and read a spoiler.
That makes me the smartest man in the universe.

Took me 2 minutes now. But a year ago when i saw this i couldn't solve it if my life depended on it.

it feels like that one zodiac puzzle in Silent Hill 1. fuck it took us hours to solve that one

i hate those things :Z

Fuck the zodiac puzzle, the piano one was a kerbillion times harder.

Took me far less than a minute, probably about 20 seconds like Pext

yea that took us a while too. we already had the answer, we only missed the "silent birds" hint for about an hour

I started doing exactly that before the solution hit me.

or maybe you reconsider your theory...
i was just lucky with taking the right approach. your second post spoiled it a bit.

note that mathimatical people "tend" to have trouble. doesnt mean they always do
im supposed to be artistic yet it took me a while so there

I did that despite having been warned not to overanalyze it.
Pext wrote:or maybe you reconsider your theory...
Of course, I was kidding about maths not being a suitable career path. But it does show that you're adept at looking at the problem from a different perspective despite having a hint/spoiler (btw it took me that long even after being given similar tips).
MKJ wrote:note that mathimatical people "tend" to have trouble. doesnt mean they always do

That too
