So check it out. I picked up my old bass and have a chance to get in a band and go that road. So my questions are..

What tips can you give me to learning to interact with other musicians musicaly. Any ideas on where i should move towards, i mean i dont even understand the fundamentals of playing, i just kinda play with myself ( no pun intended ).

Basicly im trying to figure out how to construct bass lines that will fit in with the people im playing.

OK ill leave it here i guess incase no one even plays the bass and im just a rambling fool.

Bass is part of rhythm and therefore your bandmates should be trying to fit with you.
That's always been my approach when jamming with bands.

word, you really only need to know how to play with the drummer. everyone else has to figure out how to not fuck you two up.

learn some standard jazz and blues progressions... after that most rock bass is just variations. then practice like a motherfucker - hours per day.

You should learn some theory as well. It's all fine and dandy to just play with your drummer, but it's even more interesting when you actually know what the fuck your guitarists are doing AND why they're doing it, so you can complement them.

Well, my bass influences are les claypool a little larry grahm, victor wooten,Robert Trujillo.

The band im in wants to play stuff like black, sinners, wish you were here, come to my window, she talks to angels and stuff like that.

They got some originials and stuff, so once i learn some covers i can put in my own flavor, which will probably more towards the stlyes above.

I guess im going to just take some lessons next week just to learn and talk to a player.
