US incompetent or targeting journalists?

Its hilarious watching the US news channels with them mentioning that the car ran a checkpoint when they didnt.
The car was past all checkpoints and hundreds of metres from the airport. And now the car with the hundreds of bullet holes has been 'lost'.
Yanks are so dense that they make black holes seem like vacuum.

Well, she's saying it herself.
The army opened fire on them out of nowhere. And the secret service guy who saved her life had made the tour before lots of times, so he'd know the procedure.
Since it's unlikely that they provoked the attack only to make up this story afterwards, I'd say it's pretty safe to believe her.

she has no reason to lie...
her kidnappers told her they really wanted to free her (for money of course), but the said the us military was trying to keep that from happening...

The same reason most Americans haven't heard about chemical/nerve weapons that were used in Fallujah. Hey, if there were western journalists to report all that stuff, people would realize this war has nothing to do with freedom.

yeah it sounds like the us military was testing new weapons in fallujah...they brought in bullzoers and removed the soil in those areas where they were used...
i'm sure this is the type of shit that italian whore is going to report...

it seems the us got something to explain. seriously:
firing at the vehicle nonstop for four minutes is not something like 'we aimed for the engine'...

Google News has hundreds of them. I linked that one because it has an italian reader posting a message saying how the US media is lying.

It's amazing how this is on front pages all over the world yet I had trouble finding ANYTHING about it on cnn.com
And what I found only repeated the 'high velocity - we aimed for the engine' bullshit.
Even Foxnews has it on the front page.

why is it amazing? the very corporations that have huge military contracts in iraq are the same ones that own cnn, nbc, abc, fox etc...

In her account, Sgrena said she recalled her captors' last words: "Be careful because the Americans don't want you to return."

i read that the italian and US government were in disagreement about solving the situation. Italy is willing to pay ransom for their kidnapped citizens, while the US doesn't want any negotiation at all.
I think this kidnapping will become a major issue in foreign relationships

Record number of journalists killed in 2004
PRINT FRIENDLY EMAIL STORY
The World Today - Tuesday, 18 January , 2005 12:40:00
Reporter: David Marks
KAREN PERCY: Watching the nightly news or reading the newspaper is a passive activity, but one which belies the often dangerous and sometimes deadly job of gathering the news.
Last year was the worst in a decade for the number of journalists killed around the world – 129 were murdered, bombed, assassinated or were killed in accidents or died inexplicably.

Just read this.
http://www.commondreams.org/cgi-bin/pri ... 306-31.htm
"Italians want an explanation that's a little bit more serious than the kind of joke we've got that these people were speeding. In that car were some of the most experienced officers in Iraq who know how to deal with a roadblock."
While US military spokespeople allege that Calipari's car was speeding, unidentified, towards an Army checkpoint, Sgrena's life-partner, Pier Scolari, told Italian media that Calipari's car was a few hundred meters from the airport and already past all US checkpoints when the attack began.
Sermonti, who spoke with Scolari, says, further, that "Calipari was speaking in English with someone in the airport telling them to get ready [for Sgrena's arrival] when, just as they reached the airport, without any warning, the [US forces] opened fire."
"They're talking about 300 bullets from different weapons," said Sermonti. US military spokespeople say soldiers fired at the car's engine block. "With heavy weapons, bullets fly all over," responds Sermonti. "From the reconstruction of the events, it's a miracle everyone isn't dead."
In addition to the shrapnel in her shoulder, Sermonti told Air America Radio that Sgrena also sustained an injury to her lung.
According to Scolari, says Sermonti, Giuliana had been warned by her captives that "the Americans didn't want her to get out of Iraq."
At the time of her abduction, Giuliana was heading to an area of Baghdad where witnesses from Fallujah are staying to interview Fallujah refugees about the US assault on their city last year. Says Sermonti:
"She had some information about the use of illegal weapons by US forces in Fallujah that was very sensitive. A very hot topic. There were rumors of some use of chemicals and a number of weapons that are not legal -- like [napalm] and phosphorus."
Here is what I want to know: How is it even conceivable that the President of a major world news organization publicly states that the U.S. is targeting journalists, is promptly made to resign from his job, and then less than two weeks later, we have a journalist with damning information who is peppered with heavy ammunition when trying to leave the country.
And the official stance of the White House is that it's a ridiculous, crazy conspiracy theory to think that reporters are being targeted? Not only is that the official stance, but it's the widely accepted stance, and is digested, without a single belch or hint of heartburn, into our national consciousness.
