No, I'm actually from Calgary, but she and my sister met up at univeristy several years ago.

my buddy trained all year with the Canadian olympic snowboarding team but got passed over for Turin due to political crap (he's faster than a bunch of the guys who are there).

He did, however, just win the silver medal at the FIS World Junior Snowboarding Championships in Korea. :icon14:

My country got 4 medals in the first day. Not too shabby..

The Olympics have turned into an advertising event instead of the magical spectacle they are supposed to be. Friggin' "one-man teams", making a big fuss of 8 women carrying a stupid flag, and making the whole damn thing look like a circus from hell have contributed to that. Luciano Pavarotti? F1 Ferrari? Circus act?

Well it takes a great deal of skill and physicality, but I dont see it as a sport, nor do I see most competitions that are judged by a subjective panel as 'sport'.

BTW, i was referring to the ppl who sort of dance around in silly outfits, not speedskaters or distance skaters.

That's called Figure Skating, and is insane. Doing those flips is just as much of a sport as golf..

it's a better "sport" than bowling

When you can play 4 consecutive rounds of golf, competitively, shooting sub-par rounds each time, then you can complain about golf not being a sport.
