Ok, my old, cheap Sony headphones are falling apart, so I guess it's time to get something new.

The only thing I use them for is gaming, and almost exclusively FPS games, I'm not listening to music or watching movies on my computer. A headset with a microphone would be nice, but it's not essential.

So I'm wondering, should I get 5.1 headphones? Are they any good? Does anyone have personal experience? Any recommendations?

Oh and one more thing, they need to be large. No faggoty small ones that sit on top of the ear, they should be large, soft and completely surround the ears. Plus, they need to be adjustable (I have a large head).

had some sennheiser HD something or others for a while now and had no complaints. if the sound in a game is any good then they give a noticeable advantage.

they're a bit heavy, but they fit around my dreads easily enough, so would fit around your oversized noggin.

for a microphone, just bought a dirtcheap headset, tore off the mike boom and cable then glued it to the sennheisers. if i'd bothered to stick the mike cable and the headphones cables together with something other than twistiks then they'd look good too.

can't remember how much they were, was over 50 but less than a ton.

Out of all the headphones ive owned, these are the only ones that will NOT hurt my ears/head after hours of use..

They are NOT adjustable.. but they dont need to be.. Friend of mine has a giant head, he wears his just fine.. my head a bit smaller, fit fine..

Sennheiser are the way to go. I'm buying myself some HD-497s for £30 ($55~) which are comfy and have a good frequency response across the board.

Sennheisers sound alright but the build quality always got to me.

Panasonic do absolutely fantastic sound reproduction even on their cheaper models, but the kit doesn't last.

Sony's is mediocre sound quality for the most part, and only worth looking at the higher end of their range. You'll always pay for the name with the big S.

Koss only produce one set of cans worth looking at now, but everything I hear about them tells me they're something special.

sennheiser! don't be a pussy...these r the best...and cheap too...

Sennheiser is a good brand I guess, but it seems like you pay through your fucking nose for all their products.

i've had the same pair of koss headphones for years. they're pretty ownij for my purposes, and much cheaper than sennheiser. can be a little heavy though, so not great if you're a marathon, suicidal-korean gamer type.

yea, and what model sennheiser is that? earbuds? hd-20x? i guess those are good at that performance level, but why bother? if someone asks for advice i generally assume they're looking for something better than the $20 level. "omg sennheiser!!1 u = so l337! wana plya CS?!1"

what i am saying is for the price/quality they aren't expensive...

no contest there. i'd get them over similarly priced sony any day. i do have the vague feeling that when i bought my last pair the koss had better tech specs for the moneys. euros might be able to get better deals on the sennheiser - amazon.de has them at about 1euro/$1.4 which would beat the conversion rates.

Grudge, invest in Sennheiser HD580. I've had mine a long time now, and I believe mjrpes has a pair which he likes. Honestly, they're the most comfortable headphones you'll ever wear, for hours on end. Sound quality is great.

The HD580 looks great and all, but the cheapest I've found them here is around ~£150, and that's too much to spend on headphones for me. I'm looking for something in the £50-70 range at the most.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD500's and they are really nice. Really comfy, nice high's and mid's, the lows's don't pound much, but the frequency response goes really low to make up for it I guess.

I use those too and let me tell you...my head must be too small because after about 4 hours they start killing my ears. They should have just put the support over the top.

Not only that but the volume control on mine is fucked and causes the right speaker to short out over 75% volume unless I apply pressure to the nob.

The sound quality is good for the price though.

Well I can live with the volume its the downward pressure they put on my ears that gets to me after a while.
