BitTorrent: I keep loosing peers/seeds...

My speeds go down enormously after a couple of hours. If I restart the download, there are twice as many peers and seeds as there were previously.
Possible reasons for this...?
6881-6999 forwarded. BitTornado.

That's a weird symptom.... I dont know about your part of the world but over here ISP's are really cracking down on P2P stuff. We're limited now and they throttle ports and such.
Other than that it could be a dodgey tracker, does it time out from time to time?

This is the case for any trackers. No tracker timeouts.

Most clients have a rather week server seed/ratio implementation. In essence it won't really apply the right numbers towards your contribution, hence you get slower speeds. Not always, but a lot of the times.
uTorrent and Azureus are mostly an exception to this. I get good speeds with both.
Also, try using a custom port number, the 6881-6999 range is frequently blacklisted by several sites/trackers and maybe even isps, hence giving a bad performance.

Certain clients also get banned from trackers, like BitComet.

Bitcomet is banned from some trackers due to certain versions lying about the clients upload/download ratios.
Bitorrent's bigger weakness lies in client-side reporting of usage statistics.
This matters to trackers which enforce down/up ratiosm such as empornium.
