Got this emailed to me...Although I think Groundhog's day is tomorrow (is it?), the point is still kind of funny...

Exactly. This years sotu was a bunch of bs we've all heard before.

yeah apparently bush now thinks america should wean itself off its dependency on oil. middle eastern oil that is. instead they'll just control it and use it as a veto against europe, russia and china

but wouldn't it be cool if bush kept waking up to the same day, day after day, until he learned not to be a total cunt

I thought about posting it in the global warming thread, but this is a better fit.

It's funny, for a split second I almost found myself believing Bush when he talked about his energy innovation programs and tax credits.

Obviously it didn't take long to remember all the other BS he's promised in SotU's and campaign speeches. Still, for a split second I had a little bit of hope that our government could come up with a rational approach to a difficult situation. It made it that much worse when my Bush-induced cynicism pinched me awake again.

Instead of taking some sort of action of the type he described last night, he had the provisions for increasing alternative fuels usage removed, and kept the most titanic of SUVs exempt from fuel economy standards. He's a lying prick.

Yea I already knew all of that. I think maybe the convergence of the impending oil problems with the thought of global warming, then actually hearing the president admit we are addicted to oil just......... ........... I plead temporary insanity.

Administration is already backing off the energy claims.

Why'd he specifically talk about being independent from the Middle East? Because that's what people wanted to hear:
