An interesting opportunity...

During my Computing and Networking course I have to go out on a industry year, I'll have to go out next year so im looking for jobs and companies to approach.

The placement office have given me something a little out of the blue - A possible placement for the British School of Brussels. I'm not sure if i should take it so I would appreciate some opinions. (Ive told them to put my forward anyway, i guess i could bail out later on if it isn't for me)

To cut it short i could get the following:
  • Training course paid for by the school - no specifics mentioned
  • Attain the ECDL Qualification - paid by the school
  • Accommodation (furnished), TV, Net, Bills (apart from phone) paid for
  • 690 Euros a month net allowance (the only thing I will need to pay for are phone calls, food, and luxuries)
  • 37.5 hour week
  • They pay for me getting here, and for me going back home for christmas and easter
  • Medical Cover
I think that's pretty much it. The only thing that concerns me is that i'll be away from my family, friends etc. I've never worked or stayed a long amount of time in a different country before...

Anyway, cheers

David

it's only belgium. if it wasn't for that splash of water in the way, you could walk home if you wanted to.

Go for it, Brussels isn't a bad place at all. Had a friend that worked there for Eli Lilly.

Nice lager too, go to the Manequin Pis (http://www.sobi.org/photos/places/Bruss ... is_001.jpg) and there's a pub right next to it, but they've got shite weather.

I'd have taken a placement there, plus there are a few Irish Bars (just like every-fucking where :) ) so you won't be stuck for native English speakers, plus the locals can mostly speak English anyway.

Somewhere in town too there's a bar aclled the White Horse (well I'm sure there's a horse in the title anyway) that's fucking dead most days of the week but gets rammed on a Thursday. It's good shit.

If you're going into IT, then it would be a mistake to turn down an opportunity at international experience. Go for it.

You might have to learn French and Flemish for the work environment but it sounds pretty good to me. Plus everyone knows that Belgian chicks are kinky and they put out.
