The organisation's comments come after Blizzard issued WOW player Sara Andrews with an official warning for inviting players to join a guild billed as "LGBT friendly".
In an official statement issued to GamesIndustry.biz, Blizzard said: "We encourage community building among our players with others of similar interests, and we understand that guilds are one of the primary ways to forge these communities."
my favorite:
According to INW, gamer John Blatzheim contacted Blizzard to express concern and received a reply which read: "Many people are insulted just at the word 'homosexual' or any other word referring to sexual orientation."
Blizzard doesnt feel the need to rid the world of this uneducated stance, theyd rather ban the subject all together :icon14:

I'm pretty sure Blizzard has a rule against any "real world" topics in game. This includes names and guilds.
I'm not saying it's right, just an explanation.

LGBT (or GLBT) is an abreviation used as a collective term to refer to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people

fair play to blizzard. real-world special interest groups have no place in a mainstream game. it just alienates other players. but mkj's right, they should clamp down on religious groups as well.
played a clan game at call of duty once against a bunch of christians and it was fucking hilarious. we beat the crap out of them and they were pretty good sports about it, then one of them started waffling about jesus and we spent the next 10 minutes flooding insults at them until they all left the server. that wouldn't have been any fun at all if i knew that we could run into the buggers again the next day - and it's not like they don't go around asking for it.
anyway, how do folks find time for any kind of sex if they're nerding out in front of a mogoomopamrpoamrpg all day?

When you're playing games on the internet, what difference does it make if you share 'special interests' with the people you play with?
I never tried to vet Q3 clans on real-life interests - I just wanted to find good players.
It just seems retarded to me - wearing anything private like that on your shirtsleeve, whether it's your sexual orientation or a "TRUTH-SWALLOWS-DARWIN-FISH-HAHAHA!" bumper sticker on your car -- isn't that shit supposed to be personal? Why do you even WANT everybody to know? :icon27:
That's why I can't stand gay people who outwardly flame at every opportunity -- "I don't have my own personality, so I'm just going to lisp and paw at you when I speak -- but don't stereotype me!!!"

I don't think this case was as extreme as that. I think it was more just looking to make friend with World of Warcraft players that had that subject in common

I'd really doubt they were being that obnoxious about it. It's possible, but I doubt it

Well a game of Q3 is about action and that doesn't really lend itself to conversation. WoW is just as much about interaction with players as it is about interaction with npcs.
They must have stopped watching Diablo 2 because I had plenty of lovely character names such as ItsJesusLOL, JewBastard and TerryShiavo. Terry and Jew would really piss people off

well see, the whole Wow community (or any online game) uses slang like "gay" and "queer" to describe something bad, thus creating a homo unfriedly enviroment. this is not banned by blizzard cause well.. free speech n all that.
these guys wanted to create a guild
for everybody where such slang wouldnt be used and therefore gay friendly. its not about "homos4life" or anything. hey it could just as easily been the "rated E"-guild, a guild where people wouldnt say "omg im going to stab him in the neck and pork his wife".
as i said, its not strange that blizzard doesnt want political, religious and sexual oritentation flamewars going on, but theyre going at it entirely the wrong way

People get reported for less and get banned.. Gay and queer are blocked by the language filter (yes you can disable it homos) so if reported, its banable depending on how it was used..
Hell ive been "reported" and "punished" for alot less..
