Logitech Optical mouse?

Helloes,

I've been using the same Logitech Pilot Mouse (with ball and the, back then, revolutionary scroll wheel) for 6 or 7 years now and never had a problem with it (except for the people laughing at me for being the only person in the universe still using a ball mouse) but since recently it's left mouse button barely responds anymore, so I'm in the market for a new mouse. I don't want anything fancy or expensive, just a simple, solid mouse, preferably of the classic Pilot mouse design.

I found this mouse on logitech.com which is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm just wondering if it's a good mouse. Consider that I'm a long time ballmouse user and don't put very high demands in it, is it good enough?

Should do the job.

Okay. It's just that when optical mice were new there were complaints about them not being accurate and responsive and such. Optical mice have been around for some time now, so I guess problems like that have been ironed out a long time ago, but I'm just a bit suspicious about this as it's a classic model (and probably designed in the early optical days) and thus might not be aimed at the demanding user and still have glitches like that.

That mouse should do fine. We use them at work. Personally, I prefer this:

I used to have a thing for the Intellimouse explorers. but they always broke more frequently than their logitech counterparts.

The next step up is the MX310.

Simple and solid, I have one at work and it's great.

EDIT: duff, post-sniper

The first ones were shit, but these days its tough to find one that doesnt track well. I'd say most will work fine for gaming and general use. The thing these days is for folks who want different DPI on the fly (for gaming), and buttons/design. Other than that the "optical technologies" wont show that much of a difference. They cram in lasers and really high resolution sensors that appeal to folks who love getting things with larger numbers than the other products on the shelf, but for the average dude it wont matter. I say get the mouse that will suit you best in terms of button placement.

actually looks like a good mouse. It's shares ergonomic features with the wingman gaming mouse.

see this post for why i think this form is superior:

Well I went and got a new mouse. I wanted to get that Pilot one but apparantly they don't do those wired any more (and I want wired), so the next best thing was the Logitech Click! Mouse

Looks like the MX310 but doesn't have the added buttons and is about half it's price.

I think it's a mistake to skimp on keyboard, mouse or monitor.

But each to their own.

I could never go back to a mouse without those extra buttons now, they're excellent for Back and Forward when browsing the Internets.

I don't think I skimped here, I just don't have rediculous requirements for my mouse. I've been using a Logitech ball mouse for years without any problems. Logitech is a renowned brand and I expect quality from them. I don't look for the cheapest thing, I look for whatever I need, and I don't need much.
