lol, that's amazing when you consider that christianity is practically dead in this country, barring the old folks who cycle through the mist to chapel on a sunday morn

Heh...some of them. To be honest, at this stage in the game its not just the students problem - its the education they have recieved up to this point. Everything has been so watered down in an effort to keep their self-esteem up that when they get to a stage where they actually need to utilize basic skills they just don't have them. The entire system of education needs to be overhauled, but not in the way that many think - meaning we don't need some entirely new model. We need to go back to the basics.

Kids know less and less each year. Education in America, even in the most 'successful' public schools, has a veneer of success slapped over a wall of a utter failure. On many case-by-case instances, good things are happening, but on the whole, things are going straight to hell.

Sigh...
I shouldn't be surprised, I suppose...

I think I heard about things relating in some way to evolution at least 20 times today. I heard zero things having to do with ID/creationism. Obviously there is controversy among scientists. :dork:

There was an editorial on evolution in the local paper yesterday that cheered me up a little. It's nothing new, but at least it got printed.

Don'y you teach at a public school? With kids who have public educations? Have you ever seen a public toilet? they are about the same (educations)

teach at a private school and you won't have to deal with a herd of toxicbugs.

did you read what you quoted? i have no desire to go to college. i wanted to be in the army and be paid to do something, rather than pay others a shitload of money to do homework :dork: The descision wasn't 'should i join the army or go to college', it was 'how soon after high school should i leave'

unless someone actually WANTS to work behind a desk, I don't see the point of college other than learning more in a particular field (as if you NEED a college to learn that stuff anyways)

The greatest thing about college for me was that I had 4 years of drinking beer and getting laid, with almost no responsibilities. Plus, I made lots of new friends from all around the country. But I guess you can get the same from the army (except perhaps for the getting laid, and responsibility parts).

* 44% said creationism should be included
* 41% intelligent design
* 69% wanted evolution as part of the science curriculum.
wonder who the 2000 people they polled were? "intelligent design" isn't a common subject of conversation, and most of the indigenous population are atheists that only start praying when they're backed into a corner*
