We can't really add much more to the story - only to hope that they then lock the patent away in a dark box somewhere and effectively ban the use of the graphical horrors on mobile phones forever - sorry, I really don't like them.

Freak, don't you read? From what I understand, the patent only applies to cellphones, and I don't think viewing a website on a cell phone would count. What IS patented in relation to websites is the "technology" the phone uses to import an emoticon from a website or other external source onto their phone. This is different from using emoticons on websites, computer chat programs, etc.

i bet the patent write up on this is over 40 pages long. I'm amazed at how patent lawyers can turn a simple one sentence concept into a 40 page manifesto.
