Its a web-based music player that you just search for a song genre and it plays songs that you've searched for. If you like the songs you vote yes or no, and it refines the search more such that it plays songs you like. For instance, I looked up "Metallica" and it started playing "Hit the Ligfhts". I voted yes on this song and the next one that came up was "Ace of Spades" from Motorhead. It apparently looks for songs that have similar attributes to the songs you selected (vocal types, such as male or female and how the song is sung, and what the atmosphere is like, etc. You can the register an email address so wherever you are on the web you can pop open a browser and go to pandora and have your profile played. You can also create different profiles, so one can be hardcore rock and another can be classical, etc.

The idea has been there for a while.

But the website you posted is a whole lot nicer, so easy on the eyes not to have to stare at anoying in your face advertisments.

I've known about it for a while, neverless a great music site.

I used pandora for a while, till I discovered last.fm / audioscrobbler which is much, much much better.

Added . If lots of people join the group, you can generate playlists using the media player based on what everyone in the group listens to. This works especially well for joining genre groups, and you can discover new music based on the sorts of things everyone else in the group listens to.
