yeah, the MacBook is sick. this might push me over the edge. the magnetic power plug is a simple but good idea too. steve's claiming 4-5X faster performance than the Powerbooks - pretty hefty.
check out the keynote address at around the 1:21:50 mark.

Like Jugg mentioned, I really like the Magsafe idea. Something so simple makes for such a nice addition.

lol.. don't buy into the hype man.. it's maybe 2.5x faster--given the extra core and another percentage bump for architecture if that offers a performance boost.

I'm wondering how they get more performance when the OS was designed to run on a whole different chip architecture, RISC vs CISC. Seems to me they would have to redo a ton of OS stuff to get good performance out of the deep queues in the intel chips.

The OS was designed from the beginning to be portable. Since the conception of OS X they had it running natively on both x86 and PPC. That is why they were able to make this transition so rapidly and with such seemless results.

I'm curious to see how well Windows runs on the thing, and whether or not drivers recognize the hardware properly.

my "pretty hefty" remark was directed towards the claim.

How long until I can get retail OSX on my PC then ?

I'm sure some folks will find a way to either emulate a mac or hack up OS X to get it running, but it will be a royal pain in the ass, unstable as all hell, and updates will kill the install, etc. so it just wont be worth the effort.
