New desk

Finally. I've been using an old, fairly cheap one for years now. It's so nice to have some space!

Nice to have drawers and storage space too, instead of just open shelves and ledges.

Not bad.
Protip tho: Your monitor seems too high. The top of the monitor screen should be almost level with your eyebrows when you're sat up in your chair.

Haha, yea I knew somebody would say something about that.
There are two really tall windows right there that take up the whole wall. We got some nice looking blinds for them, but after we had them for a while, we discovered that when it's dark outside you can see straight into our office/livingroom, like there was nothing there at all.
We don't really want to spring for more blinds for this rented house right now, so our temporary solution has been a couple of quilts hanging over as drapes.
It's like dorm room engineering all over again!

For some reason the monitor looks really tall in these pics. My chair sits high too though, so as I'm sitting here the top of the monitor is only about an inch and a half above my eyebrows.
I've never heard that rule of thumb before though - kind of anti-intuitive, because it seems like you'd want the center of the screen to be level with your eyes?

nah. You always want to be looking slightly downwards to the bottom of the screen, and about level for the top of it.

Thanks for the tip - heck that might explain why my neck was sore yesterday. lol
Luckily it's completely adjustable - so I just lowered it about two inches.
edit: On my old desk, my monitor was up on a stand was noticably higher than this one was. TBH, when I started I was worried that this one might not be tall enough.

That's the exact same desk as mik0rs has. His 19 inch mon plonked on the top shelf is waaay too high as well

lol, nice. I've been staring up at it like that for 3 or 4 years now.
Come to think of it, that's probably why it was more comfortable to lean my chair back when I was using it - I always reclined back and scooted the chair right up under the desk anytime I was gaming or working.

The color and the ceramic-like top on it are what really sold me - and the nice brushed-looking knobs.
Don't have to worry about coasters anymore, and it's piss easy to clean. :icon32:

Wow, that protip was hella helpfull...My eyes hurt less after playing from this angle...(idk why, these are flat crts.) And its generically more comfortable

The middle of my monitor has been at eye level for around three years or so. Do you move your whole head when you change where you're looking at on the monitor? I just keep my head level and move my eyes. Haven't had any neck pain or anything like that.

I would agree middle of monitor should be at eye level not above, otherwise you need to look down with your neck.

This can be accomplished in one of two ways - either by either lowering your monitor or raising your chair. If your screen is too low, you'll find yourself tilting your head forward to view the monitor (a common cause of neck pain). If it's too high, you may have to tilt your head back, leading to neck and shoulder pain - and increasing the likelihood of glrae from overhead lights (a common cause of headaches).
* Exception: If you wear bifocals or trifocals while using your computer, it may be appropriate to position your monitor a few inches lower than otherwise recommended to accommodate comfortable viewing through your lower lenses.
* Exception: If you use a large monitor (20" or larger), position your monitor so that the top of the viewing area is about 3" above eye level.
