What would you do?

I was doing some downloading/uploading tonight and noticed my connection was abnormally slow. It seemed like my U/L rate was cut in half. So I decided to give tech support a call. After going through all the tech BS and doing a speed test the tech tells me my speed is normal. I tell him it's low. It's suppose to be 1meg up and 6 meg down. He tells me no it's not. It's suppose to be 384k up and 4meg down, because that's what you're paying for. I thought I was paying for the faster service, because it was 1m/6m before. So I asked to be transfered to sales/billing. Come to find out, the wife called in and turned down my service in October and never told me. I then told the sales lady to turn my service back up to 1m/6m for the measly $9.00 a month. Obviosly the wife doesn't know (not that it's a big deal), but she soon will when she sees the bill.

What would you do from this point forward to return the favor? Should I cancel one of her credit cards or something? I'm kind of pissed that she did that without telling me.

first off, how are you noticing this just now?
second, you know you have to confront her, unless of course this brings up a whole discussion that's a little more deeply seeded. she shouldn't be doing things that concern your partnership and not tell you, just as you don't really have a right to go cancel one of her credit cards. (i get that you're not serious, well 100% serious)

i suggest you be a man and talk to your wife.

get her in the mood, and then just roll over and go to sleep :)

that usually works.

I just started up the torrent engines again. I hadn't been doing that for several months. The connection was great for gaming, so I didn't notice until now.

I will eventually tell her. But there's got to be a little something I can do to reinforce the idea that she shouldn't have done that. A little payback never hurt anyone. It'd prolly spice things up a bit. :icon26:

Force her to sleep in your kid's outhouse for a week. Then, in the middle of the night, light the thing on fire. Then tell her you were going to get a divorce anyway.

Wow, that sounds a bit extreme. :icon22:

I'd ask her what the fuck she thinks she was doing. It's $9, what's that £4? ffs.

I'd watch out man, if she's doing subversive things to you that can hint at someone who's unable to express how they're feeling about things, and bottles it up/releases it in really unpleasant ways.

You need to sit down and talk to her, at a guess she's trying to tell you she wants you to spend less time on the net and more time with her/the family.

Alright, from the limited information you've given, I know that's a rather drastic conclusion, but if I were you I wouldn't take the risk - sit down and have a chat.

Oh and if it does turn out to the be the case, don't turn it into an argument - that'll only reinforce the feeling that she can't come directly to talk to you.

How about just asking her why she did it in the first place, maybe she just saw a way to cut some money out fo the budget and had no clue what it did. Maybe she meant to tell you and forgot changing a cable bill is hardly something on the top priority of conversations.

Seeking payback on yor wife is hardly the way to go, especially after Bobit lost his penis while sleeping and his wife tossed it out a car window....

Use reverse psychology.

In this type of situation what you want to do is make it so she will feel/be guilty if she does this kind of thing again, while at the same time pretending to be concerned only about her/your relationship and not the actual cable speed. Tell her that you noticed it was changed and tell her that you are concerned that she might be feeling like she can't talk to you openly or something along those lines. (that's the feigning concern part) Then tell her in the future to be sure to talk to you about that kind of thing before doing it cause you want her to be free to tell you everything. (that way she'll be guilty and at fault if you catch her doing that shit again and you can hold it over her head in the guise of concern for her).

or you could just go with the whole, "it's just the fucking internet" approach and stop being such a baby.

Change the ports on BT often, ISP's will block somthing if it's constant for long enough (like that)

comcast does it to me so I have it set to change to a random one when it dips below 20kb/s

I don't think things are that serious. I would also never attack her over this issuse and make a big deal about it. I was simply looking for a "good-clean-fun" way to even things up, so to speak.

Take something she does for fun, a hobby, and take away one of her tools to make things harder for her and see how she reacts then.
