You fucking yanks still pay only 1/10 as much for filling up your car as the rest of teh world. This will inevitably change - prepare to adapt to the world prices.

These high oil prices are keeping me very busy at work. But that seems to be about the only benefit I see. I don't have a problem paying a bit more for fuel. I seriously doubt it's 1/10 as much though.

You probably pay 1/5 or 1/6 of what we pay for petrol.

That I could believe.

a gallon is 3.8 liters (according to Google). 3.8 liters would be about 5 euros in the Netherlands, which is something like 7 dollars (a wild guestimate). Saying you are paying 1/4 to 1/3 of what we pay is about right I think.

yea but you fags in europe have public transportation that takes you anywhere you want... i wouldn't really give a shit if gas cost 5$ a gallon if i had a bullet train that could take me across the 30 miles of farmland to the nearest city to my job... why don't you quit your fucking bitching and just move here already

The public transport in the UK is fucking shit. It's always overcrowed, and expensive. It would actually cost me less to drive to most places then take a bus or train (which is even more).

Does the UK have compact hybrid cars? That's the only way I would drive around in a shitty expensive country like that.

Maybe I will, zeeko

.
Well, we do have 'smart cars' which look horrid but are designed for good town economy.
You'd stand no chance if someone rear-ended you, though.

I would own one for 40+ miles to the gallon. I cant afford to drive my V8 truck any more. To bad we dont have those in the States.

That article brought up a good point that I hadn't considered before....
The assumption is that once demand starts outpacing supply, oil prices are only going to skyrocket, and continue to rise until it's too expensive to buy anymore......until it's gone, for all practical purposes.
But thinking about it, once oil starts getting prohibitively expensive, companies will start putting SERIOUS reseach into alternative methods. If these new methods are affordable to consumers (a big if), then that will decrease oil demand by a huge amount.
This will probably be enough to offset and prolong the decline of modern lifestyle by quite a bit -- possibly enough to avert it. But I only say possibly in the sense that anything's possible. It would have to be affordable technology on a MASSIVE scale in order to make a dent, since oil is not only used for energy and transportation, but every piece of plastic and rubber in the world, from toothbrushes to tires.

Christ, that would be about $165 to fill up my tank which lasts about a week. :icon23:

i think the reason those things haven't made it to the us is POSSIBLY because of those safety concerns, they haven't passed the us safety requirements or something, and they just aren't that safe in an accident with an H2...

Yea, there's no way anybody in one of those things would EVER survive a crash with a ford expedition. :icon19:
