"A mere 2000 samples were sent out to the media."
that makes me question if that is the case..
it could be 2000 cards for the media..

yes, they baight 3dfx and closed the doors, and i called it ( you can look through the quake 3 world cache ) that they where going to use the SLI technoligy..
and p00f, 3 years later.. here we are... SLI.. Ohh, and.. Dual GPU Cards.. two things that 3dfx brought to the table.

Ohh, and to add.. also the HSR.. i'm not sure if you guys remember this, its full name is "Hidden Surface removal" it was a technoligy that 3dfx was allmost done at the time of the buying..
What was not in sight of the rendering was removed, so if you where looking at a wall, the videocards used to render te other side of the wall... this stopped it..
i did a test a wile back, i was using a AMD Athlon 1800+ ( 1.533ghz ) with a KT133 based system ( Pc-133 ram ) and a voodoo 3 2000 PCI..
i did a timedemo just to see what it got, and it was 60fps strong ( 800X600 )
i found the hack to get the HSR working correctly ( still a little glitchy ) and i timmed someware in the ballpark of 80fps.
i'll see if i can find the thread in the cache, but i remember tweaking the shit out of the cfg and doing over 100fps at 800X600 on that voodoo 3..

Somewhat off topic but stock 6800's can run in SLI correct?

That's a normal feature of 3dgames today. Even Doom had it. I believe when you map for Q3 you have to effectively "vis hint" hallways and whatnot and that improved fps.
But you already knew this right?

i did, but that is not the point.. the point was that 3dfx was the ones that did it, and ofcorse everyone followed suite.
and we wouldent be having this conversation if it wasent for 3dfx.

Hmmmm... 3dfx was around during the early Doom days?
I don't think Doom was the first program to utilize this, but I do remember reading that they where the first pioniers using it.
