Megabips ?

I could have sworn that it was a unit of measurement or am i wrong here. I was talking to someone who has a 54mbps router an they are telling me that they can transfer 54 megabytes a second and i told them know, its 500kb a second, the 54mbps is bips not bytes.
Did i just hear that some where in the past and was completely wrong is does megabips actualy exist.

Naaa i dont feel bad at all. Turns out bips was a adopted word to explain bits per second way back in the day, you know when i knew and learned this stuff, you know, back when most of you were either not born or didnt know what a computer was. So i just heard the term early in my tech career. Day to day i never used it, i always used bits and bytes, but when someone asked me what the bps stands for, i just got confused as to the term.
Seriously though, thnx. I figured it out on my own, but thnx still. Kinda dates me i guess cause no one knew what i meant lol
