Heading back to work from classes today some guy ran a stop sign and plowed into me. Wrote both cars off. Everyone was ok but I've got a concussion and some bruised ribs and my friend in the car got a concussion.
Never been in an accident like that before. Crazy shit.

Write off means salvage or irreparable?

Damn, that's fucking random. Glad you're ok.
I think it should be legal to shoot people that run stop signs and red lights on the spot.

Around here getting smoked means you lost a race by a large margin.
Sorry to hear you got roughed up though. Hopefully the insurance companies don't fuck around with you.

He's 100% at fault so I'm not worried about the insurance.
And a write off is when it would cost the insurance company more money to repair the car than to buy a new one.

I got hit like that a couple years ago and didn't have a scratch. Pussy. Plus a third car had to be towed cause I was slammed into him!

So do you have to pick out a car within a set price range or is the insurance company just getting you another of the same car?

They might take forever to settle your claim. Get well checked out by a doc and ffs don't sign anything until you've talked to a lawyer. A buddy of mine has been battling ICBC (the BC government run insurance company) over an injury for the last two years. At first it didn't look like he was hurt but after a few days his neck and shoulder started to get more and more painful. If he had settled on their first offer he would be fucked right now since he can't work in his field anymore.
Good to hear that it wasn't more serious at least.

Suppose that makes sense. I'm a bit ignorant on the specifics of car insurance. Guess I should bone up, eh?

For his sake I hope he wasn't particularly enamored with his field.

He drove truck which wasn't something he liked but it paid pretty well (logging in northern BC) and he had been doing it for 10 years. It might be another few years before the bastards finally settle the claim too.

If you don't mind, what kind of car was it and what might you get to replace it?
