A tiny bit of shameless pimping

Since I got my start on these forums I always like to come back and let you guys know when I release a new song. Well, the Doom 3 mod Classic Doom 3 is almost done and before the 1.0 release we decided to release my E1M8 music remake.

We're just trying to whip up some excitment for our mod again since it's been 5 months since our last release. Let me know what you think of this song.

You ever released a pack with everything you ever made sonicclang? I'd be interested

I'll be releasing all the Classic Doom 3 music in one pack on d3files.com after 1.0 of the mod is released.
After that I'll put the songs on my server, and yeah, maybe I'll put together a zip file of all my songs. I may be retiring from game music after this, so I could make it a "the complete works of SC" zip or something. I'm getting more and more paying gigs in my studio so that trumps doing game music for free. Paying gigs = new equipment = good = Sonic Clang very happy.

As long as you'll visit now and then

. Do mention it here when you put it up.

Yeah I'll come here and mention it. I've been coming back here every week or so since I moved on to this Doom 3 mod and any time anything big happens I come back here to let everyone know.
Thanks for your support gentlemen.

There's always that elusive "being paid to do game music" thing too. I'm crossing my fingers that you'll find something. (Assuming you're still trying for that.)

Well, after the whole "open house at Raven" thing I think my chances of getting hired there are pretty slim.

haha.
I don't know, after talking with Zack a little about making the music and sounds for Quake 4 I'm not sure how much that job is for me really. And after working on Classic Doom 3 I'm just not sure if it's for me. I think I may need a little time to think about stuff after the 1.0 release is done and I can relax for a little while.
The other option in Madison is Human Head studios. They're making Prey.
I know you're always looking out for me pjw.

Nothing wrong with that. As you already know, working in the games industry is not always the endless shower of rainbows and chocolate that some people think it is, and it's certainly not for everyone. You seem to have the talent to make whatever choices you wish.

I honestly think it wouldn't be as gratifiying for me to work in a big studio that shoots you if you talk about the game. The cool thing about being in a mod team is that I can talk about the mod and it really don't affect anyone or piss anyone off. Plus I have a real direct connection with the community and I love the feedback I get. I think I'd starve for that feedback in a real game studio.
I'll obviously still be sending my demo to the two big places in Madison to see if they bite. If not, that's no big deal at this point. I'd need to make a certain amount per year to change careers anyway, so there's not even a guarentee that I'd get an offer I'd even take. I make good money at my current job and I have two degrees. At least the way I'm doing things now with recording bands for money I can ease into doing that for more and more money and eventually possibly quit my day job and do this full time.
We'll see.

On a different note (heh, excuse the pun), I think it would be cool to have some music for a game or something else, that's a mix of Indian tabla and Japanese taiko drums and other bits of percussion.

The Hong-Kong music piece from Deus Ex sprung into my mind when you said that, although it's not to that specification.
Awesomest game music ever.

That's another reason I probably wouldn't work out very well at a real company, I can't do THAT many styles of music.

I liked the music in Hitman 2.

I bet you can. I have the feeling as if you're really underestimating yourself. From what I heard of your stuff, all of it is quite good. Perhaps with a little inspiration by listening to different music and a little trial and error, I'm sure you can pull something off with a very different style.
I think the music in the new Prince of Persia games is pretty amazing. Some Indian themes with a techno-style beat.

Uhm is it just me or that stupid site not working on my setup - there are no download servers to choose from ?
Posted: Tue Dec 06, 2005 2:19 pm
by SonicClang
Well it's getting a bunch of downloads a day so I know it's working. Let me check.
From what I can see there are three servers to chose from. Depending on where you live you'd chose the best one for you.
I'm not sure why you're not seeing any.
