I'm in the same boat, using rounded corners it won't round properly in IE but works flawlessly in Firefox, and all the css/html is 100% validated.

validated means buggerall for ie

what method are you using? most reliable is to have an element for each corner (or at least for 3 of them).

or just add a div with an nbsp at the end of your content with that bg img and the bgcolor of the underlying div/td/body

It's getting hard to see the layout, 'cos there's more and more cracks appearing on my monitor as I beat my head against it. Thanks for the link, man.

edit: I've come up with a revolting hack involving tables that even works in IE5 for mac, ffs, and IE6 windows still doesn't like it. AAAARGH

semi-fluid layouts can be a real pain unless you're happy to run in quirksmode, especially with that border around the content area (which means you can't do any of the usual background tricks).

does it *have* to always go to the bottom of the viewport? or would a minimum height for the menu/content areas do? e.g, something roughly like this:

other reason for posting that is to make a nerd suggestion about the way the html is laid out. this way the visitor gets

title
content
menu
contact info

in that order, so you can have different stylesheets for different platforms, or if the stylesheet's ignored, it'll still be okay as a page.

Oh dont forget tables. It's real dark-ages shit, but tables are still WAY simpler AND more robust than CSS when it comes to the macro layout of your page.

Which is fucking stupid, but whatever works right.
