So, I haven't really kept abreast of h/w developments...

But seeing as my PC is getting brutally assraped by Q4 I think it's time to upgrade.
My current system is an XP2500+, 2Gb of PC2700, an ASUSA7V8X-X mobo, and a GF6800GT. Now, I'd like to keep the gfx card, but it's AGP and it looks like all the new mobos are PCI-E? I want to go for a significant processor upgrade, but is AGP still an option? Does anyone make a mobo with AGP and PCI-E?

I just bought an A64 4000+ and an MSI AGP motherboard. Was able to keep my current video and ram.

asus makes one but its micro atx and only has 2 pci slots.

Is it really worth trying to find a motherboard with both AGP and PCI-e? I think the agp board I just bought was 60-70 bucks. Thats not really a huge amount of money. Buy agp now...and just get a pci-e motherboard when you decide to upgrade your video. For me it was worth the money just to get some more use out of my agp card.

Dunno how you feel about this kinda thing DB, but I have it on good authority that the guy who runs OCUK is a big BNP supporter...

I know for a fact he is and so are most of the people in Stoke. Stoke has a few issues with immigrants at the moment so the BNP are getting a lot of support from the white population. It’s the same for Shrewsbury. There’s a massive BNP following there.

NS, don't waste the time or money building an AGP rig. Hold out for the PCI-E mother board and video card. The price difference isn't going to be that much, unless your current mobo can support a faster CPU and that's all you need. But if you're going new mobo, CPU and RAM, just buy a lower tier PCI-E video card until you're ready for the better one.

Dude, I dropped 4 bills for this card, I'd like to get some more use out of it.
My mobo will support a faster CPU, but not a whole lot faster. Problem is that the RAM becomes the bottleneck then.
Can anyone tell me what the fastest CPU is that I can get that will work well with 333Mhz RAM?

You can only go so far with incremental upgrades before you're wasting money - at least that's what I found.
You can buy a few steps down from the bleeding edge and still not spend a fortune, while keeping future upgrade options open. If you keep buying down to your best piece of hardware, you can nickel and dime yourself to death, because every component you upgrade after that will require another new piece of hardware in order to support it.
