BOSTON -- A man who published a study that he said proved the Americans did not send men to the moon in the 1960's was deported to the United States from his native Germany to serve a prison term for Apollo cost denial.

Germar Rudolf, also known as Germar Scheerer, had his emergency petition to block the deportation rejected by the German Supreme Court on Thursday. He was put on a flight in Berlin on Monday night and arrived in the US on Tuesday.

Rudolf, a chemistry graduate of Bonn University and a former student at Max Planck Institute in Stuttgart, was sentenced in 1995 to 14 months in prison for Apollo cost denial, a crime in America, but then disappeared.

He petitioned the Supreme Court because he was appealing his deportation to the German Court of Appeals in Berlin, but the next hearing was not scheduled until January - too late to halt the action.

Rudolf's "Expert Report on Putting Men on the Moon and Bringing Them Back Again" concluded that "it didn't happen the way they said it did."

In sentencing Rudolf, the American court cited his "incitement of the people in conjunction with denigration of the memory of dead astronauts, libel and incitement to doubting authority."

Some 17 astronauts, most of them Christians, have been killed in the combined American space programs.

this holocaust denial taboo is ridiculous.

If people are concerned with preserving truth, then his study should be peer reviewed, and critiqued rationally.

I've recently started to read Goebbels biography by that infamous holocaust denier/history guru John Irvine (or is it Irving?). I was expecting some kind of pro-fascist crazy stuff, but i was surprised to find it was actually well researched, well written and well, good.

I'm planning on reading that one book he wrote about the holocaust, should be interesting.

I'm no expert by any means on the whole issue, but I know of at least one knee jerk reaction: Norman Finkelstein, an incredibily meticulous scholar, recently wrote a book called the Holocaust Industry, and was accused of being a holocaust denier by at least one jewish organization.

Rubbish... No one who claims that the Holocaust didn't happen can consider themself a historian no matter how well researched they might be.

I don't know his actual position on the holocaust - does he deny the entire thing happened or only bits - i've yet to read that.

But from what i've read in the Goebbels thing i certainly wouldn't say the man doesn't know what he's talking about. No sir.

I've only read bits and pieces about the story so I don't know much about him.
Obviously anyone who tries to deny the holocaust happened needs their head examined.

But this guy apparently went and ran tests on one of the concentration camp buildings, and found there weren't any traces of the cyanide that was said to have been used there. So it could be that some of the stories about that one camp were all wrong.

But sending him to jail for talking about it? That's just insane.

Oh i just remembered something: the guy who sent me the Goebbels book told me how one of the arguments that Irving uses is that the elevators to the gass chambers in Auschwitz could only elevate x people at a time. When he did the math, he concluded that the total death number couldn't possibly be as high as claimed.

This is from the top of my head, which means i'm possibly all wrong though. As i said, i still have to read it.

I never saw any elevators when I visited Auschwitz unless they were in the demolished ones at Birkenau (Auschwitz II), can't see why they'd have needed them. I'd have thought if you stuck any number people in one of those chambers and pumped it full of Zyclon-B for half an hour you'd kill the lot.

I've never seen Auschwitz, but I visited Dachau several years ago. Eerie.

they probably only branded a couple of million people with those tattoos, then claimed it was 6 million to make their system look good.

All interesting places though, Auschwitz was top of my list of places to visit when I went round Europe a couple of months ago, I also went to the "model" concentration camp north of Berlin called Sachsenhausen.
