White Crosshair + some maps = crap

Hey guys, there are one or two maps that have white patches on the ground, I think where lights shine down on the ground. Anyways, this is really annoying as I use a white crosshair and do not wish to change the color. i think that white is the easiest for me to play with. so when ever I rail at some one on a lower level than me, I cant see the crosshair(if he is standing in one of those patches)

Is there any command to remove the shiny BS in the game??

I am currently using R_skipspecular which removes most of it, but not all.

if you wanna know what im talking about, load the remake of dm17(dont know the name) go to the upper platform, and aim down at the catwalk leading to the jump pad. The one that bounces you to the railgun. if r_skipspecular 1 isn't used, there should be a white patch that completly camo's the crosshair.....

Thanks guys..... any help/advice would be appreciated

r_skipspecular is broke, it resets to 0 after warmup, map change, etc.. I have a bind for it so I press after warmup.. till patch comes.

I use a yellow crosshair. Don't see why a different crosshair color is a problem

I'm amazed n ogame has actually done the inverted colour crosshair still. Its so easy to do. It means that not matter what colour you aim at, it will always be visible (With the exception of some greys)

I also use white crosshair I do not like colored ones.

If your brightness is a bit high the surfaces will be really shiny/white.

You will notice this on THE ROSE, LONGEST DAY, NO DOCTORS.

I do not go higher than 1.5 in terms of brightness or it will be too shiny that it's almost blinding :)

That's what i thought too. Perhaps a ring with inverted color and a white dot in the middle would be even better (i like a tiny crosshair).

I experimented with different colours in Q3 (CPMA) too, but i just went back to white.

Yeh, I know the r_skipspec resets, I also have a bind to set it

ok, so by the looks of things there is no solution, execpt using a difference color crosshair :(

I'll just stick around untill there is a solution.

Thanks for the help guys :P

In UT2004 i used a white dot with a thin black border. Worked brilliantly.
Not sure if you can use custom crosshairs in Q4 - I noticed there is a cvar that points to the .tga file, can you use your own file?

I dont think your custom crosshair will work on pure servers.
