christ if that's the strength of media criticism in the US of the iraq war it's no wonder a majority of you guys were duped into supporting it
they acknowledge the 'deception' (or lies in plain english) but make no attempt to ask what the *actual* reason for war might have been, given that the nukular weapon argument was bogus

Christ, they're still trying to make it sound like nobody knew the Niger docs were forgeries until after the State of the Union. The timeline of events obviously shows that all the officials involved had to know that he was telling a complete lie in the SotU BEFORE HE WAS SAYING IT.
More media damage control for the White House. They're still doing the same dance they were in the run-up to war -- presuming the administration is telling the truth about things when the facts clearly indicate otherwise, even after they have already been exposed as liars.
I'm not surprised they aren't trying to get to the real reason for war though. There is no way our mainstream media is going to start digging into the fact that nearly all of the White House Iraq Group were Neoconservatives with strong ties to the Likud party in Israel, not to mention an official who has had his security clearance taken away in the past for passing classified information to Israel.
Never going to be spoken on our televisions, I guarantee that.

Probably the most comprehensive "quick-read" timeline of the events I've seen so far is antiwar's, btw:

Also, NOBODY seems to be mentioning the possibility that the Plame leak had a two-pronged purpose.
Plame and her front company (Brewster Jennings) were working on tracking and stopping WMD proliferation internationally. It stands to reason that, since the Niger docs were forgeries, this organization would be in a good position to investigate them and find who the forgers were.
When Joe Wilson wrote his article dismissing the forgeries, the damage had already been done. They had been proven forgeries already, and the public already knew that the State of the Union claims were false. So we have to look at a couple of questions here:
Would highly intelligent and manipulative career politicians, such as Rove, Cheney, Libby, etc., be willing to risk the entire administration's credibility and effectiveness, simply to slap back at Joe Wilson and say 'Haha I got you back?'
Has no one noticed that in Libby's indictment, it plainly says that Cheney told Libby that Plame worked in the Non-Proliferation sector of the CIA, when he first revealed the information to him?
Our media is never going to dig into any of this. It is only going to go as deep as an investigator or prosecutor can or will take it, and none of the higher administration officials will have to answer any of the really hard questions - just like Iran/Contra. Almost tragically funny, since Bush has appointed Iran/Contra criminals to his administration to help him run the government they respect so much.

Actually, Raimondo's been saying that the Plame leak was the least of the effects in that whole debacle for a while now. To wit: It was really about what was going on with the document forgeries. I hope Fitzgerald keeps digging in this investigation until the truth comes out.
I can't help but be reminded of how Ken Starr kept going after Clinton over so much superficial bullshit, yet no one seems to be howling for Bush's head on a platter. It would be fantastic if the Dummycraps would win control of one of the houses of Congress and start actually DOING SOMETHING.

No doubt, but this whole thing makes them look just about as bad as the Bushies, because they went along for the ride without a single question.
I've been reading Raimondo's articles for a long time though, he has been way ahead of the mainstream on all of this stuff, and has been amazingly accurate with most of his predictions. I don't know if it's because he's so sharp, or if it's his great sources or what (I imagine some of both), but the guy deserves some serious recognition for his work. :icon14:
edit: Regarding your comment on his points though... He has basically been saying that the leak was minor compared to the Niger forgeries, because the circle of people involved in and behind the forgeries is what's really at the heart of this issue. Unfortunately, as soon as you start talking about them, the smear of anti-Semitism is bound to come up. Not all of them are Jewish, but nearly all of them are Likudniks who support Sharon passionately. You have to remember that "A Clean Break," was written by these guys including Michael Ledeen, and was originally a strategy for Israeli dominance that was submitted to Sharon years ago. It was essentailly too extreme for the rest of the Israeli government to even consider supporting, so it never really got any attention. It included regime change in Iraq, Syria and Iran, to secure the realm for Israel.
Now the same people who wrote that are in powerful positions in our government, and have possibly helped forge documents and doctor intelligence to get the ball rolling on "securing the realm" with our military.
Can you imagine the outcry from the Jewish community if that were said anywhere on our network news programs? Needless to say it won't be. Meanwhile, even if it were to come to light, look at all of the politicians in Congress who win their elections due in large part to AIPAC contributions.
It's basically a lose-lose situation, unless somebody like Fitzgerald has the minerals to seriously pursue this and bring it all out for the public to see.
I personally think it is much worse than the Pollard ordeal, but there is such a chokehold on the political process and the media, that we can only pray some lone, uncorruptable person will come along with the will and the power to expose the whole debacle.
