i wasn't taking a broad swipe at america. just this one little issue with the voting machines.

canada has it's share of fucked up things but c'mon now. these things count the votes with enough evidence to at least cast doubt on the process. this is the "one" thing you don't want to fuck with in a democracy. if you can't count on a legitimate vote to rid yourself of the scumbags, what do you have?

Yes but what's left today?
all of western europe, representative governments, architecture, some roads, some cities, romance languages, some philosophy, christianity, etc.

not much, really. but man, good thing those carthaginians were around or modern civilization would be pretty hollow!

All right, but apart from sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

rumor is, even their alphabet was homosexual and decadent. good thing we don't use that!

edit: wine wasn't a roman invention though. italian jokes aside, neither was olive oil or pasta (iirc)
