The "Official" GT4 thread

Since there are a number of us playing this game right now, I figured I'd get one thread started like this so we can post questions, comments, etc., here instead of scattered around 3-4 different threads (mods feel free to delete the other gt4 threads - even those not made by me...heh)
So - here is another newb question. Can you really fuck yourself if you make an unwise car purchase? For example, I am moving into the FF races (just beginner level still) and there where so many cars to choose from that I really had no idea where to start, so I stuck with Toyota, picking up a Will VS. I upgraded it with a turbo, and a weight reduction, but still was getting my ass kicked in the FF races...going to do some more upgrading (now out of money, so going back through b-specing sunday cup again).
Can you make pretty much anything into a worthwhile car with enough additions, or are some of them just going to be shitty no matter what you throw on them? Does the simulation actually take into account the real detailed characteristics of each car in terms of handling, etc., or are they pretty much just all the same 'car' with a different skin, different amounts of horsepower, and different tires (speaking only of cars in the same class here)>

Some of them will be shitty no matter what... at least, that's how it's been in the past. All the cars are different, and some are much more upgradable than others.

kinda replying to your last thread, you shouldent have gotten the G-limmited MR2.. it is by far one of the Worst viewed MR2's of the group.. and that includes the MRS...
the standard model of any of the Mk's would have been a wiser choice..
i got a 1997 Mk3 MR2 GT-S payed 9'800 for it, and spend ~4G's on the engine and its taking NSX Type S/R's..

I've really got no idea which way to move through this game, which order to do races in, etc.
I figured the only thing the MR-2 would be for is to get through the first sunday series of races. I can't even use it in a bunch of the other ones anyhow.

Buy a used 95' Mitsu 3000GT or similar year... upgrade to best parts and get turbo, should give you around 800hp. You can win a boat load of the better races this way, get better cars for the victories and sell them so you make more cash faster.
Although the car takes a while to accelerate fully and it sucks at cornering.
EDIT: Don't worry about the order of races. You won't really be fucked for purchasing a bad car because in the latter races you can win some nice wheels that like I said net you more money. A good beggining portion of the game is about scrounging for cash though... but later on, you won't have to worry about it too much, so you can make unwise purchases if you wish, and you could start buying the 'crappier' cars to your collection if you wish, sorta like a hobby... =D

dzjepp has a point there. the last GT game i played through was GT2 for PS1 and my method of attack was as follows:
Honda S2000 > Mitsubishi 3000 GT > Porsche 911
i know that it wasn't really a "Porsche" (different name), but it helped me win race after race after race.

???SPOILERS??
Ok, the one make races kick ass. Yes, they may be a little specific, but the rewards are very nice (sometimes).
I bought a brand new Subaru Impreza WRX STi, suped it up and beat the 4WD races with it. Then I suped it up some more, loved it, and beat the Champioship of Pliedeas (sp?) in the Subaru one make races.
For each race in this championship series you win 10,000, followed by 75,000 for winning the overall series. Yes, winning 125,000 for easily kicking ass is very nice. However, the car you win from this FUCKING RULES!!! The Subaru Impreza Super Touring '02 car is FRIGGIN AWESOME!!!
Yea, so get it.
