The following games look pretty cool:

Final Fantasy X
Devil May Cry 3
Tekken 5
Gran Turismo 4
Metal Gear Solid 3
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Kingdom Hearts
Ico
Katamari Damacy

Are they? What are the exclusive MUST HAVE PS2 titles that would make the console worth a buy?

I was going to get one of those slim PS2s but I don't even play my xbox anymore. Games just don't grab my attention these days.

Get yourself a used Xbox, add a mod chip, start a collection. It will become your entertainment center.

xbox fucking owns.

Driving a square car in GTA:SA with pop up things 20 feet in front of you at 15FPS does not own.

'muff said.

SA was a lot of fun, but yes, the utter shit graphics really did detract from it.

I'm not sure about buying a PS2, but I'm even less sure about buying an XBox. If I'm gonna buy a console I'll need kick-ass exclusive titles (and none of that sports game shit), and a number of 'em.

Its not crying, it true ;) I couldn't care less if the game was boxier than it is. The problem is, that playing at 15 FPS with that ugly shit being all thats on screen, is not fun to me.

the point is: even though the console is allready a few years old, there is still some fun to have with it. gaming is not about uber gfx, it's about gaming.

Are there any reasonably easy to install modchips?

If you have an old xbox you can do a soft mod and not have to even open it, but yes there are some real easy ones... I don't know the names but is almost just a drop in.

How does the modchipping actually work if you don't even open the box? Do you know specifically which boxes qualify as "old"?

I agree, but I tend to have a threshold for acceptable graphics and fps so that it isn't exceedingly distracting from the actual gameplay.

Whurd.

I know you all think im a graphics nut, but im really not. I would rather play an ugly game smooth than a nice game stuttering.

really like SA, but the pop-up does my head in. it's at it's worst when you use the jet and have to hover above the ground for a minute waiting for everything to load.

there are a few games that make it worth getting a ps2. not saying that and comparing it to any other console, not serious enough about my console games to care - but you can pick up a ps2 for next to nothing, so why not do it.
