Yep. this is the most technically demanding and most expensive motorsport in the world, by a large margin. i believe touring cars are second, albeit not a close second.

that's a radical design for sure; if it helps overtaking, that's cool. i'm looking forward to slicks and wider tyres next year.

i hear the rumor mill is saying that they're going to ban all driver aids soon as well... that would be nice. so long as bernie can keep the crying and grey area cheating to a minimum.

the only thing i'm going to be sorely dissapointed about is the loss of the V10.
i don't think i'm going to be too happy with the shreaking banshee V8s next year.

at 18k, the V10's were shrieking plenty for me, but i have to agree with you.

and yes, you can never say RIP Senna too many times. terrible loss.

oh, in other unhappy news... before china they announced that the USGP was going to be comming back to indy.
shame too, that track sucks.
if the US cared at all, they would build a track in vegas. That way when the international circus comes to town they get treated to the slutty bling factory. not some cow town in indiana.
or move it back to the glen, so i can drive there in < 3 hours.

We got a track here in Vegas. It's only used for NASCAR :icon23: . F1 is like futbol. Americans think it sucks, so there's no incentive to invest into it.

the current track in vegas is an oval though... totally unsuitable for proper race cars.
someone should invest a bit of cash and put a real track out in the desert. If winn built one, got F1, ALMS, and some other higher profile races... he'd easily make his money back at the hotels and casino.

Well, the FIA (led by Max Mosley) is trying to do a major overhaul of the regulations for 2008 in an effort to reduce costs and increase competition. I actually like most of the proposed changes. These are some of them that I read a while ago:

1. Wider car with return to low-profile slick tires.
2. Banning of all electronic driver aids. They will enforce this by way of an FIA-issued electronic control unit onboard the cars (I really like this one).
3. Return to fully manual stick shift gearbox with a foot-operated clutch. The stick to the gearbox has to be a direct link (I really like this one).
4. Reduction of downforce up to 90% from what it is now (I really disagree with this one).
5. One tire supplier selected by the FIA.
6. Allows a team to purchase chassis from other teams.

BTW, I read that most teams will still be using rev-limited V10's next year :icon32:

Cosworth has already revved their prototype F1 V8 engine to 20K on the dyno You can go to cosworth.com to downlod a clip (it's on the front page) to see it for yourself

I've always much preferred the high-pitched screams of the F1 engines over the low grunts of big block engines like in NASCAR :icon30:

Yup, Indy is easily the worst of all current F1 tracks. Besides, I've never really been a fan of making a road course out of an oval, although I do like the last 3 corners at Indy :icon32:

I think they should bring back street circuits for the USGP. I absolutely loved Detroit and Phoenix. If they insist on permanent road course though, I think Road America would get my vote

Oh, i wasn't complaining about the screams, only that i like the screams of the V10 which is enough. V8 @ 20k sounds awesome though.

Living in PHX right now, i'd have to agree with you. i wasn't here when it was part of the circuit though

Road America is excellent. Other than Indianapolis' big pocket, there was no reason to build a new "in-field" circuit and spend millions when there are perfectly good tracks elsewhere. use that money and promote the sport through adverts. knuckleheads.

Semi-automatics may be safer and faster, but there are a lot of skills involved with shifting gears manually, skills that sadly have been lost with the advent of semi-automatics. Manual shifting also makes it so much more entertaining to watch and the engines sound so much nicer (gotta love those big downshifts ).

I've driven on the front and the back straights of the old Phoenix street circuit before when I went through Phoenix once. I think they are Jefferson and Washington streets? It felt quite bumpy but gotta love them sparks flying when F1 cars went through there

I agree with you fully on this account... but i whole heartedly believe that a gated stick shift has no place in F1.
they invented the flappy paddle gear box and should continue using it.
the cars from the 60's may have been more of a "drivers car" but seriously... the modern cars have 900+hp and go from 0-200mph in under 15 seconds. it's crazy to ask someone to do that without a semi-automatic.
