The MP George Galloway angrily rejected fresh allegations last night from a US senate investigation that he lied under oath about Saddam Hussein’s multimillion-pound oil-for-food programme.
They're also saying that his wife had money from oil sales sitting in her bank account. I hope neither him or his wife have done any of the things they're accused of, especially after the savage pummelling he gave the senate.

He probably hasn't done anything wrong, but over here he gets a lot of "throw enough shit and sooner or later something will stick". can only imagine it's worse in the states.

i only know him through listening to the hitchens-galloway "debate".

He didn't earn much of my respect at all based on his performance.

i didn't think much of that one either, but then they both seemed pretty pompous.

there's a link to the video of his senate appearance on the top-left of this page:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4553601.stm
that makes for better viewing.

still, considering the subject that gets him in front of a camera or behind a microphone, he's never going to be too lovable.

"We have what we would call the smoking gun," said Senator Coleman.

TBH if they claimed he'd given Saddam a blowjob I'd probably believe it. Most of the other stuff is pretty tenuous though.

Do you mean that whole senate hearing thing?
I loved that, gave me a nice warm 'hahaha, he told 'em good' feeling.

no talking about the debate he had with hitchens. Couldn't stand the fucker. Even though I don't agree with hitchens, I have a lot more respect for him than galloway based on that debate.

I have a hard time believing this latest round of smear on Galloway.

If they can provide some hard proof that he in fact did profit from the oil-for-food corruption, then I'll be pretty disappointed after the way he talked at our Senate hearing.

But our Senate committee is talking about indicting him now for lying to them, and they're claiming they have some kind of proof that he profited from the whole thing, even though they refuse to say what that proof is.

To me it's a fucking dog-and-pony show that's practically irrelevant to most of the real issues that need to be addressed right now - not to mention the fact that the original "proof" they had turned out to have been faked, which makes me question the motives of this latest round of accusations. :icon27:

the docs 'found' in baghdad about galloway getting kickbacks also turned out to be faked

besides, when a republican says "we got a smoking gun", expect bullshit. they told us they had a "smoking gun" over iraqi WMD too

maybe they don't have really fucking awful people selling it over there.

was on a demo this summer and i got felt up by some mad old cow selling the socialist worker (they were doing the usual thing of hijacking protests). when i shoved her away and told her to start walking, she did, but she shouted "THATCHER'S CHILD" at me until she was out of earshot. fucking perverted commie space-cadets, the lot of them.

story's valid though, saw it on a couple of other sites too.

TBH I've never heard of it before, but was linked to it from a different site I visit. But like 4days said, I've seen the story 2 other places in the last couple days so I knew it was a valid story. Just didn't have the original links handy when I posted.

I've never seen the magazine though, I assumed it was an online-only news site or something.
