Quake3World

I go to multiplayer, then settings and then click on "disabled" under punkbuster to change it to enabled. It loads, and then I'm at the desktop. If i try to do it the other way around and change the pb value to 1 in the config, the game doesn't start.
I use a uk dvd version that was still packed in paper, so the cd key has to be ok and unused.
What could the problem be? I've tried with a new install and a fresh cfg as well, but the problem is still there, and of course this means I can't play on lots of servers?

Outmatched

Not sure if it's related, but there was a problem with the last pb update that caused Quake 3 to crash when you had certain other programs running. I have to shut down newsleecher whenever I play on a pb server. One of the admins over at Jolt mailed evenbalance about the problem and got this reply

Note #2: This issue is from a program that conflicts with PB. There are a few known program that cause this:

Get Right
DU Super Controler
Macro Toolsworks
Girder 3.2
PRTG Traffic Grapher
T-Online DSL Software: ctfmon.exe
CyberCorder: cybrcrdr.exe

Closing those programs, or any like them that contain user or kernel level debuggers should stop the problem.

Not saying it is the same problem but if you do have any of those programs running it might be worth shutting them down and trying.
