Observation regarding FOV and widescreen displays

I have a widescreen monitor and get motion sickness. An FOV of 120 is crucial for me to not get sick( i wish i knew why ).

I noticed that there was a widescreen option, here are some results.

fov 90 + widescreen :

fov 120 + standard aspect:

As you can see, there is little to no difference. The image seems stretched up/down slightly though.

For those of you that don't like looking at the limp arm, give widescreen with fov = 90 a shot. It might suit your needs.

edit: 25 FPS :icon23: , actually, I don't mind it that much

I can see quite a bit of difference there. The room looks longer and deeper, more of a 'fish-eye' for lack of a better word.

I have my widescreen LCD, but my current video card won't push Q4 at its native resolution, so I won't be hooking it up until this weekend when I upgrade everything.
I can't wait to see the performance difference, but I wonder if the widescreen will drop my frames noticeably.

What I meant to say is that the difference between viewing angle is marginal (left most vs right most).

I still would like a good time demo to try these settings out; as far as I can tell, there is no FPS difference between the two settings.

you need to play with the r_aspectratio cvar to get things looking right on widescreen displays

no, it should--I didn't know we had added that to the GUI menus... I always just did it in the console

but if it's in the menu, that should work.

Yeah there's also an option to change the aspect ratio in the menu:
