Some kickass process managment tools

Post by dzjepp »

From http://www.sysinternals.com (I'm sure many of you know of them already)

Autoruns - http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html

This will display all the dlls and whatnot that hook onto explorer (amongst other categories). Sometimes 'rouge' apps will put something in there (spy-type crap) and you can disable explorer shell extensions here, even when a particular app does not let you choose if you want an item added to the context menu of files/folders.

I disabled web check, and a few shell extensions, and 'channels' (you remember the old channels service under Win98?) and I could swear the bootup memory footprint went down a bit (gets ready for the 'why would you use this type of app - it's bad mmmkay' speech from ts and juggz :paranoid: ).

Anyone want to be a ginuea pig and see if you can disable other shit without causing any harm? ;)

This tool goes great with Process Explorer - http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/P ... lorer.html

Anyhoo, they have a ton of other fantastic utilities I think all of them being freeware.
