Do you know of any good free, or good value, drumming courses/sets of exercises on the 'net? For a n0ob, of course.

Definitely geebs, there's quite a lot of free material on the net, plus various drum forums with invaluable information. To start with, check out the video lessons here and see how you get on.
These videos are pretty good showing you how to grip the sticks correctly and how to strike the drums correctly. Various drummers have advanced variations on these techniques, and you will find that out if you watch all of these vids. I would go with mark wessels techniques initially.

Here's a bunch of other video lessons:

And check out this forum and read some of the threads, there's always beginners asking the kind of questions you might want to know:

Plained is right ya know. Straight back as much as possible rather than leaning in towards the drums too much.
I'll give you another tip geebs. If the drums sound a bit cardboardy, open the boxes up and take them out first.

Everyone knows that if you can't read music and don't learn the theory first you are just a poser

Funnily enough, "poser" is the name of my band.
Anyway, I've learned and forgotten how to read music on at least 3 separate occasions. I'm hardcore.
